Meet The First Baby Ever Treated With Cannabis CBD Oil At The Hospital
In December last year, Nicole and Ernie Nunez became proud parents of a baby girl named Amylea. However, when they brought her home, their life immediately turned into hell. “About a day after we went home from delivery is when she had her first seizure,” Nicole said. “She has a rare form of epilepsy. They don’t know exactly the type.”
For two months, they have been desperately looking for solutions, as doctors in their home town couldn’t help, so they went to a Colorado hospital. Ernie drives back and forth every day for work, while Nicole stays in the hospital all day long. At the Children’s Hospital in Aurora doctors tried a drug cocktail on Amylen, but the drug isn’t without side-effects. “The medication she’s on is hard for her liver, and so we’re trying to do something different that’s not so bad on her body,” Ernie says on their decision to try cannabis oil treatment.
Ernie and Nicole learned about the cannabis oil treatment online, and immediately decided to give it a try. They found information about it on a website called Charlotte’s Web, which describes the life of a young girl named Charlotte, who had her first seizure when she was 3 months old. Over the next few months, the seizures worsened, so she was hospitalized and treated with cannabis oil which was able to reverse the condition.
“I sat for a good three weeks fighting with the doctors and trying to talk them into giving me the okay,” Nicole says. “I’ve been working with the case study team and the neurology team here at children’s and I’m hopeful this will work.” This week, doctors finally agreed to let the cannabis oil into the hospital to treat Amylea. “For us to get the approval for us to administer it while she in the NICU while she’s a patient…it’s kind of like a miracle, because they were completely against it saying, ‘No you can’t do it, you have to wait until she’s an out-patient.” Nicole says.
However, even though the doctors gave the approval, they won’t administer it, so the family needs to do it by themselves.
After only a few doses, Amylea is already doing better. According to her parents, she is the youngest patient ever to receive the treatment. This case must not be overlooked – it proves that cannabis oil is a practical medical option which is safe to use in babies.
Recently, The Free Thought Project reported on the findings of a study that showed that cannabis oil can be an effective treatment against intractable epilepsy. The study was conducted on 261 subjects. The results showed that 45% of them had significant reduction in their seizure frequency, while 9% were seizure-free for 3 months! Some children even continued to feel the benefits a year after the study ended.
This, and many other studies have showed that cannabis oil is a viable medical option for many serious diseases, making the FDA classification as a Schedule I drug absurd.
A GoFundMe campaign has been raised in Amylea’s name – find it online and donate and share this article to show some support.
