You Will Never Have To Scrub A Toilet AGAIN If You Make These DIY Toilet Cleaning Bombs
If there’s one room that should be spotless at your home, it’s the bathroom. It is an area which can easily stay clean with a little help from everyone at home. If you have kids, you should show them how they can help a little every time they finish in the bathroom.
What’s in a toilet bowl cleaner?
Bathroom cleaning products usually contain harsh chemicals such as bleach, so you may need to reconsider using them as they can be pretty dangerous, especially for kids. When the chlorine from the bleach is mixed with acid, it creates a toxic gas, just like the one they used back in the World Wars. Bleach is a corrosive and hazardous irritant which can easily burn your skin and anything it comes in contact with.
These products also contain 10-50% of hydrochloric acid, which is associated with kidney damage and respiratory tract irritation. Some brands even contain fragrances which can be dangerous when inhaled and cause allergic reactions, headaches and airway inflammation. Bathroom cleaning products can even contain hormone disruptors.
With all the dangers lying in them, why don’t you try using these homemade natural toilet bowl cleaners? Here’s how to prepare them:
Ingredients
- Half a cup of citric acid
- Half a cup of baking soda
- Half a cup of cornstarch
- Gallon-sized zip-top bag
- Water in a spray bottle
- 25 drops of an essential oil of your choice
- A mold of your choice (muffin tin for example)
- Big Ziploc bag
Preparation
Add all the ingredients in the Ziploc baggie without the essential oil, close it and shake. Now, open the bag and add 2-3 streams of water, then close the bag again and knead. If it gets puffy, let a little air in – this occurs due to the reaction of baking soda and citric acid. The mixture should feel like pie dough – it should be ready when you squeeze a handful and it stays like that. Be careful not to over-water it though.
In the end, add the essential oils in the bag and knead again. Now, carefully pack the mixture into the molds, and leave it to dry for 2 days. Afterwards, get the pieces out of the molds and let them dry for another day or two. Store them in a sealed container and they’re good to go!
Using these cleaning bombs is easy – just drop one in your toilet bowl and let it act until it stops fizzing, then clean the sides with a brush and flush. That’s it – you now have DIY homemade toilet cleaning “bombs” which are safe for you and the environment!
