From a Wheelchair to Commuting on a Bicycle: How One Woman Naturally Reversed MS
Here’s what Wikipedia says on Multiple sclerosis: “Multiple sclerosis (abbreviated MS, known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is an inflammatory disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms.
MS affects the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with each other effectively. In MS, the body’s own immune system attacks and damages the myelin. When myelin is lost, the axons can no longer effectively conduct signals. Although much is known about the mechanisms involved in the disease process, the cause remains unknown. Theories include genetics or infections. Different environmental risk factors have also been found .
Almost any neurological symptom can appear with the disease, and often progresses to physical and cognitive disability. MS takes several forms, with new symptoms occurring either in discrete attacks (relapsing forms) or slowly accumulating over time (progressive forms).”
Sadly, there is no known cure for MS, and the treatments are limited to returning bodily functions after an attack, preventing new attacks or preventing disabilities. MS drugs can have adverse side-effects and sometimes don’t work at all, which is why patients are always searching for alternative treatments. However, an American doctor has recently suggested that she found a cure for multiple sclerosis! Watch the video below by Dr. Terry Walls at TEDxIowaCity:
“Too many of us have spent years, sometimes decades, failing to provide our cells with the building blocks they need to conduct the chemistry of life properly.” Dr. Walls says.
Biography
Dr. Terry Wahls is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa. She is also a patient with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, which confined her to a tilt-recline wheelchair for four years. Dr. Wahls restored her health using a diet and lifestyle program she designed specifically for her brain and now pedals her bike to work each day. She is the author of “The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine” and the paperback, “The Wahls Protocol A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles.”
You can learn more about her work from her website, www.terrywahls.com, on Facebook (Terry Wahls MD), and Twitter at Dr. Wahls teaches the public and medical community about the Protocol and the latest from her research lab in a three-day seminar every August. She is currently recruiting for patients in a new clinical trial, Dietary Approaches to Treating MS Related Fatigue. To learn more about this opportunity, email the clinical coordinator, Cathy Chenard. She can be reached at .
